IN 1937 during the Great Depression a group of friends from East Boston, sons of Italian immigrants, formed a baseball team, called the McKay Pals. They joined a league and played teams all over the city. They won those games and played their last game, a championship game in Fenway Park. They won that game, too. They dreamed of playing for the major leagues, like DiMaggio, their hero.
Four years later America was at war. These same boys joined the armed forces and gave up their own dreams to protect the dreams of many. What remained of their game at Fenway were a photo, a victory, and an inspiring story passed down to their children and grandchildren.
I’m writer/director Karen DeLuca Stephens. A few years back my sister and I were going through some old family photos. We noticed that the only photo of my father as a boy was this one (the team photo above) A friend of mine suggested I make a documentary so I did and this is it. It is a story about community family and perseverance. Watch our trailer (to the right)

We had a very successful festival run. It was so exciting to be offically selected and screened at 8 festivals all around the country.
These are the 8 festivals we were accepted into.
On March 14, 2024 we brought the documentary back home to the neighborhood where it all started. This a behind the scenes look at the special day of screenings.
We created and designed a hat to commemorate this special group and their amazing story.
